Are you a meeting or event location that would like to increase its ecologically efficient operations to attract more bookers? Sustainability is no longer merely a term in our world today; it's a genuine need. Corporate leaders must ensure that their choices and actions provide guests with the best experience possible whilst also minimizing their carbon footprint.
The following list shares our tips and the green steps as suggested by the International Association of Conference Centers (IACC).
Start small:
-
Choose signs that can be recycled or reused. Ensure meeting groups have signs and name tags that can be reused or recycled. Also consider replacing notebooks with a digital application or using recycled paper. Small steps add up to a bigger goal.
- Use electronic flip charts instead of paper ones. Computerized flip charts not only cut down on waste, they’re more easily shared and stored post-meeting, plus they give your slideshows a modern look.
-
Return to water jugs and glasses at the meeting table or provide your guests with reusable water bottles; make it a visually aesthetic one with your logo and you’ve got yourself some good promotional material as a bonus. Topping up these containers on-site is an easy change and uses a lot less plastic.
- Start a "No Idle Policy". Tell all drivers, including those of delivery cars and shuttles, to turn off their vehicles' engines when they're stood still or not in them.
- Minimize the use of disposable items. If you must, use biodegradable products, for instance plates, cups, and cutlery made from corn or potatoes.
- Supply bathrooms with biodegradable or reusable containers and bulk dispensers. Ensure the contents are environmentally friendly too, consider products substituting palm oil, or other harmful ingredients for landscape and or skin.
- Choose cleaning products from natural sources, made in your area, and/or are recyclable without containing phosphates.
- Save energy by checking the seals on doors and windows regularly. Also, consider getting an energy audit and follow their suggestions to lower your carbon footprint.
Raise your impact:
- Install taps and toilets using less water and washers and dryers using less energy. Make sure to wash at the coolest temperature and in the recommended amounts.
- Work with suppliers who care. Request organic, local products in the least amount of packaging possible and to purchase in bulk. Also, returning boxes to recycle or reusable containers can make a big difference.
- Favor menu items that use seasonal, local ingredients. Provide vegetarian options or follow lists of fish that are safe to catch, and meats collected from ethical farms.
- When landscaping, consider saving water by planting trees, shrubs, and plants that are native to your area or can survive in dry conditions.
- Pick green products and services by switching from harmful materials, pesticides, and herbicides to alternatives that are better for the earth.
- Use different kinds of energy. Solar, wind, geothermal, and hydro energy can make you less reliant on traditional forms of energy. If your business uses vehicles, you could consider hybrid, biofuel, or electric choices.
- Take part in programs that offset carbon emissions. You could plant trees, set up kitchens and herb gardens, or start bug hotels or beekeeping businesses to offset carbon pollution.
